With August disappointing on the weather front, it’s time to look forward and embrace the turn in season.

The February catwalks presented a variety of AW14 trends but my personal favourite has to be the whimsical, fairy-tale like looks seen at the Dolce & Gabbana and Mary Katrantzou shows.

Dolce & Gabbana named their collection “Enchanted Sicily” which presented a folk like collection entwined with fantastical reminders of fairy-tales.

Earthy colours appeared throughout in deep green, red and purple hues alongside browns and greys. Coats, capes, dresses and skirts featured delicate appliqué in the shape of woodland creatures such as foxes, swans, hedgehogs and owls.

My personal favourites include an emerald green appliquéd coat and a rich red, fur hooded coat which would make a wolf quake with fear in Red Riding Hoods presence.

A-line and shift dresses appeared frequently throughout the show in sky blues and earthy browns, animated by owl appliqué and lace like embroidery.

For me, the most beautiful look of all was a floor length owl and flower printed, sheer blue dress with a billowing skirt that would be suitable for a wild mystical creature such as a fairy or nymph.

To capture the Dolce & Gabbana image in Aw14 look out for long skirts, deep greens, rich reds blues and purples, earthy browns and greys and subtle embroidery and appliqué.
